Tharuni In collaboration with Hexagon-Revival of Balika Sanghas-Empowerment of Adolescent Girls in Warangal District.

Tharuni and Hexagon Software Company has formed Balika Sanghas in Bodduchintalapalli of Geesukonda Mandal, Warangal district from April  2015.They have adopted the village by identifying 70 adolescent girls to empower them.A Resource and Training Center was established, in the local School compound, with a Mini Library, Sports Material, Computer Lab. Ms.Kavitha is appointed as Coordinator to motivate the girls, convincing their parents and Mr. Santhosh as Spoken English Trainer and Mr. Kiran as Computer Instructor.
the Girls are taught , how to manage Balika Sanghas,disadvantages of Child Marriages, Child Trafficking, HIV/AIDS, Personal Hygiene and its importance, etc in their day to day program, Girls are able to improve their communication skills in English  by attending spoken English classes.They have learnt basics in Computers, MS Office, Word and Excel etc.They are playing Shuttle Badminton, Tennicoit, Volley Ball,Carroms,and chess etc.
The Girls have celebrated Telangana Formation Day on 2nd June 2015, with lot of enthusiasm and fervor.One of the Girls who wants to appear for All India Services was sponsored to get admission  in St. Francis College, Hyderabad.
Tharuni & Hexagon are planning to open a Tailoring Center very soon.
Tharuni Team express their gratitude for the initiative taken by Hexagon to adopt a village  and  educate the adolescent girls with Life skills.

National Girl Child Day celebrations by Tharuni

Tharuni celebrated 'National Girl Child Day" in the interior villages of Warangal District in Andhra Pradesh.on 24th January 2013.It was really a pleasant surprise to all of us that, the Balika Sanghas intiated by Tharuni long ago are being continued for years together. On this occasion the Balika Sanghas of Singarajupalli, and Nirmaala villages of Deveruppula Mandal , with the cooperation of their Zilla Parshad High school Head Masters, and Teachers,conducted  the National Girl Child Day Event  with lively speeches by them,on the role  and importance of girl child in human life. Cultural events were also held by them.
Everil Spencer, Project Manager, 'Voice 4 Girls' and Executive Director "Tharuni" Dr. Mamatha Raghuveer, were  invited  as Guests of Honor for the occasion.Everil spoke on the unity among the girls will certainly boosts up their energies and empower them  Dr. Mamatha appreciated the girls for continuing the Balika Sanghas for their mutual support and progress among their communities and villages.
Everil and Dr. Mamatha also visited "Kasthuriba Gandhi Balika vidyalaya  at Bachannapet where the orphans, and school dropout girl children are being educated. Everil promised to conduct special classes in English and Life Skills to the girls on behalf of'' Voice 4 Girls'.

Balika Mela at Geesukonda on 26-06-2012

Tharuni in collaboration with UNICEF and Rajeev Vidya Mission  organised  Balika Mela (girls' Meet ) on 26th, at Geesukonda Mandal , Warangal District. Four hundred  girls belonging to Balika Sanghas attended the Meeting. UNICEF coordinator, MPDO, MEO, ICDS Extension Officers,attended the Meet along with Anganwadi workers and Supervisors.Dr. Mamatha, Director Tharuni while appreciating the active participation of the girls in the development of their villages, distributed mementos to 20 best Balika Sanghas. She also gave Appreciation Certificates to thirty girls who passed their xth (Tenth)  standard with more than 500 marks. The Speakers encouraged the girls to continue their group activities, contributing for the welfare and development of their villages, while educating themselves.

Bathukamma by Balika Sanghas

The Balika Sanghas in the four Mandals have played 'Bathukamma' during Dassara festival days to revive their culture and traditions. Tharuni team, along with their Director visited most of the villages and played Bathukamma along with the girls and the prizes and mementoes were given for the best decorated Bathukammas.Kota Ram sponsored the prizes in the memory of his son Kota Akhilesh.Tharuni is indebted to Mr. Ram.

584 Leaders of Girls' Groups & 90 Boys Groups' Exposure visits

There are five hundred and eighty four Balika Sanghas and 90 Balura sanghas, in the four Mandals of Ghanpur, Dharma Sagar, Geesukonda and Deveruppula in Warangal  District, working under Tharuni. The leaders of both the groups are being taken on an exposure Visit to the Police Station, Post Office, Mandal Revenue Office, M.P.D.O's office, and primary Health Center to enlighten the Boys and Girls about the functioning of these offices.The leaders in turn explain to their groups about the importance of these offices in day today life.
